How To Cook A Rib-Eye & Mashed Potatoes While Backpacking

It's easy to eat well during an overnight backpacking trip. Just marinate a steak in the fridge for a day, wrap it in aluminum foil the next day, place in a zip-lock bag and then freeze. The mashed potatoes in a bag that only require adding boiling water work quite well because of weight. However, a few real potatoes wrapped in foil work well too (but they're heavy and bulky in the pack).
